The grooming process is insidious and makes it unlikely that the woman so abused would use a firearm to protect herself. That said, so what? I'll bet all of those houses have other dangerous things and we are not suggesting that baseball bats or power tools or knives be banned.
There are a plethora of facts that go into the decision to stay with an abuser and whether or not a firearm is in the house is just another one of those facts.
No one is murdered just because there is a firearm in the vicinity. They are murdered because a person decided to kill them.
Is the nominee suggesting that firearms be restricted? They do not say. Because if so, even were it a restriction limited to households where there is an established record of abuse, that would simply become one more reason not to report abuse for many abused women.
