Do your own study on issues before you join any group/protest/organization. Don't just believe what others tell you.
You have a duty to inform yourself. It's easy to believe what the internet tells you but remember, even your very searches are being curated by people with a political agenda.
Do the extra work to find sources opposed to the opinions you may hold. And also remember that you can be friends with someone with whom you disagree. Personal responsibility and self control are what make that possible. Exercise some.
