The government MUST NOT make it's own money. The power of the purse is the final exercise of power of the people. If the government is self sustaining, financially, without the people's voluntary payment of taxes, then the government is no longer restrained from any laws it wishes to pass or enforce.
To this blogger, this sort of thing - government taking a stake in businesses - is an incremental step towards the government becoming the equivalent of a profit driven company. A company that has no need to do as the people direct.
