No one believes that the situation at the borders is a good thing. Is the situation optimal? No. Is it our fault? No. Do we have unlimited resources to deal with it in a way that might be better? Also no.
Many people think of the USA as the wealthiest nation in the world. The truth is it is the most indebted. We do not have unlimited resources and the resources we do have are strained beyond reasonable capacity. Perhaps, had Congress not devoted their days to finding new ways to spend money at our expense, we would be in a better position to deal with this situation. But "perhaps" doesn't churn the butter.
The truth is we are dealing with it according to the law(for a welcome change) and doing the best we can.
Maybe if people could stop playing "my team is better" we could get somewhere, but I suspect that the spirit of faction serves those in positions of power too well to allow it to stop. It serves some people very well to allow this situation(one in which the executive has to continually make temporary policies rather than Congress actually doing their job) or others to continue so that they can drag it out when they want to vilify or commend depending on what suits their goals that day.
This will be fixed when the people actually do their duty and research ALL the candidates, instead of using political parties as easy buttons, and vote for those who actually share their values instead of those who "can win".
"Reporter: “…How is this not specifically child abuse for these innocent children who are indeed being separated from their parents?”
Nielson: “So I want to be clear on a couple of other things. The vast majority, vast vast majority of children who are in the care of HHS right now — 10,000 of the 12,000 — were sent here alone by their parents. That’s when they were separated. So somehow we’ve conflated everything. But there’s two separate issues. 10,000 of those currently in custody were sent by their parents with strangers to undertake a completely dangerous and deadly travel alone. We now care for them. We have high standards. We give them meals, we give them education, we give them medical care. There’s videos, there’s TVs, I visited the detention centers myself. That would be my answer to that question.”"
"15 Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.
16 Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour; I am the Lord.
17 Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.
18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the Lord." ~ Lev 19:15-18

Letter from Rep Glenn Grothman
The reason it is important to correspond with your legislators occasionally is to hold their feet to the fire. In this recent letter from Mr. Grothman's office, he says very specific things. Things to which he should be held.
"I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;" 1Tim 2:1-3

Mexico's Children
Update: This article says that the children at the Nogales Border Patrol station are mostly from Guatemala, El Salvador, or Honduras, NOT Mexico. (It also says most of them have parents already in the US and these children will only be released to parents. Shouldn't the entire family be sent back when mom and dad come to get them then? What in the world is going on here?)
It seems that Mr. obama's blatant refusal to enforce US law - US immigration law in particular - and his recent statements saying he would not deport illegal alien children has spawned a wave of children being sent over our borders. What should we do? Send them back or adopt them.
Americans have been conditioned to think of Mexico as some third world h**l hole. A country so awful that it would be inhumane to deport illegals back to it - especially children. In truth, Mexico is not even on this list of the world's most miserable countries. (And just for the sake of bursting the bubble that such people will have a life of beer and skittles once they come here, the US was not on this list of the world's 5 happiest nations.) Mexico is a nation with its own problems, just like any other and the USA has no obligation allow unfettered access to the resources provided for our own citizenry to the citizens of Mexico. (I reference Mexico here, because, at this point in history, the largest numbers of illegal immigrants are Mexican citizens - although this solution can and should be applied to all illegal immigrants.)
Why are we rounding up these children, vaccinating them and sending them further in to our nation? Round them up, give them a good meal and send them home. Then charge the government of Mexico for their "vacation" here. We owe them no other obligation than to treat their children more humanely than to send them trekking back to their homes through the desert unaccompanied.
For those who object that these are just children and their folks are sending them here in hopes that their lives will be better out of a sense of sacrifice for them, okay. Here's the other alternative. We keep them. All of them. We send them to child protective services where they will be assigned to an orphanage and adopt them out to American families. But here's the catch. If you send your child here, unaccompanied, for a better life, you give up that child in perpetuity. The Mexican government (and other governments that are allowing their citizens to come here undocumented) should be made either to pay for the maintenance and return of these children or to declare them orphans and allow them to be stripped of their former citizenship to be adopted by America.
This would not be amnesty because the caveat to the loss of their old citizenship lies in this: They will be declared orphans in the sense that they will be giving up all former familial ties. In addition, when a child is pushed across the border for this purpose, their adult relatives lose, in perpetuity, the right to apply for American citizenship.
That's right, if these parents really think their children will be better off in America, then they send them knowing that they will lose, not only their child, but any hope of rejoining that child once they have been granted citizenship here. They should also know that the foster care system here is not exactly spectacular either and their children would be at its mercy. Since there is an argument to be made that these children are being used to gain citizenship down the road for their relatives, this incentive needs to be removed.
These children should not be used as the rope in a political tug of war. It needs to be made clear to other nations, and any discontented citizens of those nations, that US citizenship cannot be gained by risking the lives and health of children.
"Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate." ~ Psalm 127:3-5

Daydreaming of a Solution to America's Woes
Presenting a humorous, tongue-in-cheek solution to many of the ills which currently plague our nation.
Instead of sending millions(or billions) in foreign aid overseas with no return to us, I propose that we, instead use that money more efficiently, by giving certain people $50,000-$100,000 each to move to those nations.
How could this help? Which people?
Here's the thing. This nation is currently infested with citizens who refuse to recognize the value of it's founding principles, insisting that in order to be any good at all, America must become more like Europe. There are those who seem to prefer a socialist system of government to the one we have. We also have a certain number who we can only assume wish to live in a nation ruled by sharia as they are making a great effort to subvert the rule of law under the US Constitution to that of islam. Then there are those who think they would have a higher social/economic status if their ancestors hadn't been sold into slavery by their neighboring tribes and the islamists of that time and brought here who are looking for reparations for that horror. (Slavery was and still is a horrible thing, but America outlawed it, as you may recall, some decades ago.)It seems to me that these folks, rather than being kept in this nation where they are so very unhappy, should be given a sum of money equal to say a year's salary for them and transportation by the US Military to the foreign nation of their choice. In order to claim this deal, they must renounce their US citizenship and agree to never return on a work or marriage visa.
Just think about this for a minute, It's a win-win-win. Those who are unhappy here, get to relocate to their chosen utopia with money to get them started and free transportation The nations who get them will be the beneficiaries of all their spending to set themselves up with houses and etc, so they wouldn't need foreign aid any more. They would also be getting all that human capital - people who will be supportive of the government of their newly adopted homes. The military gets a chance to do something that doesn't violate their oath. And we get a nation of people who want to be here. People who understand and value the vision. principles and underlying philosophies of our founders. No more socialist creep or creeping sharia as those folks can leave to live under the systems they claim are so much better.
Just imagine the peace of mind for all those who do value liberty over license, when we can listen to a fellow citizen propose a move towards socialism or islam or any other governmental form or philosophy which is antithetical to the US Constitution and simply suggest to them that they take advantage of the wonderful deal they are offered.
This would surely cost less than we are spending on foreign aid now and as an added bonus, the immigration problem could be addressed more seriously because it would be apparent that only those who want to be Americans are welcome here. (No, legal immigrants would NOT be eligible for this deal, only those who were born here and "subject to the jurisdiction thereof")
Yes, other nations may start refusing to take these people as they realize their mistake and start trying to change those governments into the republican form of government they left behind, but that would be an added benefit for us too, as it might create other nations who nourish freedom over time, so that if we lost our minds and allowed freedom to be lost here, there would be someplace else to go. Yup, that would be a win-win all the way around.
Just a daydream, but please feel free to share your refinements in the comments section.
"But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil."~ Luke 6:35

Destroying the Rule of Law or Lock up your kids to keep them safe
The Washington Post is reporting that the Supreme Court has ruled that if the countries of illegal immigrants do not want to take them back, we cannot keep them in jail here. The result is that some 2,837 illegal immigrants who were convicted of sexual assault here were released.
Have we all lost our minds? So now illegal aliens can commit sexual assault and walk away. This is not upholding the rule of law or the dictates of the US Constitution. This is victimizing the people of this nation in a way that is entirely criminal. Deport these people.
Of course their home nations don't want criminals back. Then they would have to use their own resources to imprison them. Why are we giving their home nations a choice of whether or not to take them back? Just send them to the point farthest away from America in their home nation and send the government of that home nation a bill for the cost of their transport.
Common sense would indicate that we are not required to keep the citizens of other nations here for any reason, much less allow them to flout our laws with impunity. But then common sense is apparently dead in DC as is respect for the rule of law and respect for the very citizenry that granted them the authority to make such heinous decisions.
"Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they keep not thy law." ~Psalm 119:36

Immigration Madness
The senate went ahead and passed the monstrosity put forth by the supposedly(by their republican membership) conservative Gang of Eight. The claim is that we neeeeeeeed immigration reform.
That we need it for a number of reasons and that it wouldn't be fair, somehow, not to reform it.
The question arises "fair to whom?" The overwhelming argument seems to be that those who have come here in violation of our laws are owed some sort of consideration. That even more we must cater to those who have come here illegally and made or brought children with them who are then plunged into a morass of criminal victimization, being both criminals by their presence here and fodder for criminal elements, not the least of whom are the very coyotes who effected their infiltration into our nation.
This is not fair to us. The citizens to whom the Congress is supposed to owe their allegiance. The citizens who elected them. The citizens who can and should recall them.
I will grant you that it is very sad that children are affected. Children are often affected by the criminal actions of their parents. Does that mean that our laws should no longer be enforced against anyone with children? No one would or could reasonably argue that the harm done to the children of thieves or murderers, who are citizens, by enforcing the law against them is reason enough to let them go free. Yet that is the very argument we are given for immigration.
There is the argument that they are here doing jobs that "Americans won't do". Rubbish. Unemployment is still rather high in this nation and there are people who would do any job they can get just to put food on the table. I know some of them. Construction workers alone would refute that argument.
It seems to me that the truth is that the Congress is running out of money and rather than cut spending responsibly, they would rather find new people to tax. Apparently spitting on the current citizens and those who have bothered to come here legally is A-OK with the gang of Eight and those other senators who voted for this bill.
Mr. Whittle, of PJMedia, has said the problem is one of jobs. Maybe it is, but that doesn't justify allowing our laws to be disrespected.
A real solution might have been for Congress to fully fund ICE for the next 3-5 years and let them do their jobs. During that 3-5 years, while the American people are being reassured that the law is being enforced properly, the Congress could create a realistic guest worker program and streamline the application process for citizenship. Perhaps that sounded too difficult and complicated. It was easier, no doubt, to allow special interests to write a huge omnibus bill on the order of obamacare, full of God alone knows what and pass it so we can find out what's in it.
Shame on them.

Arizona's "New" Law
There seems to be quite a lot of uproar about Arizona's "new" law. I have to wonder how many of those protesting so vociferously are aware that this "new" law is nearly the same as the federal law that has been on the books for some time now. The only difference is that Arizona, tired of waiting for the federal government to do their job and actually enforce the federal law, has made it possible for agents of state level law enforcement to do that job too.
The lack of enforcement on the federal level seems like just one more indicator that the federal government of this nation has broken the contract with the people. The people elect legislators who are to govern "by the consent of the governed". These legislators all take an oath to protect and defend the Constitution. I don't see a whole lot of protection or defense out of the Obama administration or the 111th Congress for that venerable document, nor much respect for the governed either. Breach of contract is a serious thing in business, how much more grave is it when the breach is between We the People and those who have been elected to do our will.
I also can't help but wonder how many of those protesting this "racist" and "inhumane" law have really thought through the issue of illegal immigration. I have stated my opinion in previous posts to this blog and others. My opinion is basically that illegals are an overall detriment to this country. They drag down the character of her citizens and provide fodder for gangs and other groups that engage in illegal activities. Their children cannot expect legal employment or education, as they lack a social security number. The adults cannot perform the duties of citizenship for fear of being discovered and deported. Those who employ them are tempted to treat them as slaves, knowing that these people have made victims/slaves of themselves by coming here illegally.
I have to wonder, too, how these protesters can square their "humanitarian arguments against the pleas of those families left behind in Mexico? I am also very tired of everyone denigrating Christians for what they perceive as unchristian behavior, when, by my observations, most of those who claim the title of Christian today have no idea what they believe or why aside from some lovey dovey, goody-goody, "a Christian must be nice to everyone and never say anything mean" requirement.
True Christianity confronts evil and does not remain silent when people are behaving in a way that harms themselves or others.
"This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein." ~ John 12:6

Who is doing the wrong thing here?
I had the opportunity the other day to attend a lunch meeting with a representative of AmeriCorps. They are looking for ways to help (legal) immigrants assimilate into the culture here in Northeastern Wisconsin. This meeting was focusing on the Hispanic population and I learned a good deal. Much of it was very positive and dealt with helping people learn to plan for their futures and encouraging their children to aim for college and beyond.
Some of the knowledge was not so welcome. One of the other attendees was a high school teacher for a rural school. She was clearly fully integrated into the "these poor illegals are all victims of our cruel and oppressive system" mode, so I won't go into most of what she said. The part that struck me was relating to the future of the children of illegals. She was incensed that there were no programs for them to get social security numbers. She said these children often don't see any point in graduating from high school or going on to college because without social security numbers they can't get jobs and they can't attend college. (At least not most colleges) Now in my mind, the mind of the presenter and her mind this was linked to the growing gang problems we have been seeing. (Legally unemployable youth who are already criminals by their mere presence here turning to lives of crime? Say it isn't so.)
In her mind, and I suspect the minds of most liberals, this is a great reason to extend amnesty to these children, if not their parents. To my mind, it's a great reason to send them back to their country of origin. Like it or not, actions have consequences. One of the consequences of entering this country illegally is that your children will have no future other than a life of crime. I am not the bad guy for making these children into criminals. Their parents chose to put them in this situation, not me. They are criminals by living here with their parents, and they have nothing to look forward to here but becoming more deeply involved with criminal elements by staying here. By not sending illegals back to their own countries,(and I believe those countries of origin should pay us for their transport, lodging and food on the way), we are forcing these children into a life of crime.
Many of these children are bright and intelligent and deserve better. Think of the impact they could have on their own countries. Having lived here and experienced the values that lead to success, what couldn't they be inspired to do to make their own countries better? We don't have the right to keep them here and force them into a life of crime and neither do their parents. They should be taken back to their own countries. Maybe some of you think that makes me cruel and heartless. I don't. I think adversity builds character and these children will have what it takes to rise above their humble beginnings and make a difference for their own countries, if they get what they need from us. Namely a ticket home.
To those who believe they should be allowed to stay and get a social security number, put your money where your mouth is and sponsor them for legal citizenship. But don't ask me to approve of any plan that strings them along with promises of amnesty at some nebulous time in the future while they are dragged deeper into criminal activity, held hostage by their illegal status. Don't ask me to approve carte blanche citizenship for people who are providing fertile ground (their children) for gang related and other criminal activities by their willingness to put personal profit above personal responsibility. And please, don't tell me I should be helping people who would put their children into such a situation either. This is not making a better life for your family, it is plunging your family into a pit from which they may never climb out.
I believe that if you want to come here and work your tail off to send money home, then your first priority should be to make enough money to get yourself here legally, as a citizen. This is the country that is giving you the opportunity to help your relatives back in the old country. This is the country that is providing you with such freedom. If you are unwilling to work to make your own country into a place that gives you such opportunities, then don't expect me to welcome you with open arms unless you want to become a responsible, contributing, citizen here.
"It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones." ~ Luke 17:2
