Rittenhouse Verdict Leads To Call To Repeal Second Amendment

By people who lack understanding... or who are deliberately working towards the destruction of the republic.

Those saying young Mr. Rittenhouse 'brought a firearm to a riot" are ignoring the facts. He did not bring it. It was given to him for self defense when he agreed to help guard a friend's car lot in a situation where law enforcement was not being supported in shutting down violent rioters. What responsible business owner would NOT arm those who were willing to protect his/her property in such a situation?  

The responsibility lies squarely on government officials for both inciting such behavior through their remarks and refusing to provide the necessary assistance to local law enforcement to keep the protests from turning into riots. (Gov Evers comes to mind here. His remarks after the shooting of Jacob Blake were egregious and his refusal to send more law enforcement/the national guard immediately was ill considered at best and a criminal negligence to his duties as the highest executive in the state at worst.)

As to the "no more rural population" argument, in Wisconsin, there are schools that shut down on opening day of deer season because they know that there will be a significant number of students who are not going to be there because they will be out hunting with their parents. That firearms law was not to prevent young people from having firearms, it was to prevent gangs in Milwaukee from having sawed off shotguns.

The second amendment was not included to make sure people could hunt. Such a notion would be regarded as ridiculous in the society in which it was written. Hunting was a matter of everyday life. The second was specifically included to maintain the republic by making sure that the populace had not only the authority, but the firepower to remove the government should it become necessary as is explicitly stated in the Declaration of Independence.
