This "MEDYKA, Poland/SIGHETU MARMATIEI, Romania (Reuters) -Tens of thousands of Ukrainians, mostly women and children, crossed into Poland, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia on Friday as Russian missiles pounded the capital Kyiv and men of fighting age were told to remain." is the difference between men and women.
Men can fight for their territory. Men are better at fighting. Men are stronger and therefore better able to show mercy in battle. Men can't have babies.
That last one is the true reason why women and children are moved to safety. Because they are the future of the nation. They keep the nation alive. All the men can die and if the women and children are safe the nation can be rebuilt with those survivors. If all the women and children are killed, the nation dies too. Certainly it may be argued that the surviving men could go on to father children on foreign women, but it is largely women who raise the children and teach them who they are.
How many times have we read the story of the young wife of the king who was pregnant when he was killed/murdered/assassinated and who fled with the yet to be born heir? Or the baby spirited away in the midst of the attack who came back to claim the throne? There are not a lot of monarchies about these days, but that isn't the point of these stories. The point of them is that if the women survive to bear children who can be raised to hold to their "true identity" - as royalty or as Rus or as Ukrainian or as American - then the nation may be rebuilt by those children.
Men are not women and no amount of personal or cultural delusion will change that fact when reality comes calling.
Russia's move on Ukraine/The Ukraine is calling us back to reality.
(Apparently saying "Ukraine" or "The Ukraine" is now a political statement too. Quite frankly this author doesn't know which side to pray for in this conflict, given the history of the region and current political realities, but that isn't the point of this post, so, praying for both and that God be somehow glorified through it.)
"26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,
30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?
32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.
33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
34 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?
35 It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear." ~ Luke 14
