We have a duty to do whatever we may - on every level - to make sure that, should we go to war, the highest number of those of our fellow citizens who choose to serve come back alive.
Anything that lowers standards of fitness for duty or unit cohesiveness is a threat to the lives of our soldiers and we OWE it to them to maintain standards and unit cohesiveness.
Their lives depend on it and, through ends achieved, by their sacrifices, so do ours.
